Snow Days Can Be Educational Too

Feb 5, 2020

Here in Saint Charles County, Missouri we are having another snow day… again. However, this does not mean that our students have to be glued to the TV or their tablets. There are so many educational tools at our disposal that every moment can be a learning moment, they might not even know they are learning. Have your young English student do an acrostic poem about snow. Have them list as many words as they can and make multiple poems about the world around them. Have an older student? Have them journal about their day using Journal Buddies. They have multiple choices to pick from. At Your Learning Center we love to showcase our student work!

Snow days don’t need to just be about writing either. In our Core Math Program we use IXL.com. Students can continue learning and using their math skills while still having fun. The great part about IXL is that it is self learning. You do not need to be there to answer your students’ questions. Every question has an explanation and answers to help your student learn at their own pace.

Snow days don’t need to be spent idle. Give them these options watch their minds grow. If they say, “Oh no! That sounds boring”, you can always tell them to go clean their room. 🙂
